Hemlock comes to meet Yor once again.
Things are starting to look serious in Tatsuya Endo’s Spy x Family manga. After Yor’s conversation with Macmahon in the previous chapter about their respective marriages, she decides to ask Loid out on a date. During the date, Hemlock comes to find her and gives her an ointment Gympie made for Yor, which leads to a misunderstanding. However, Yor’s main predicament lies in Loid’s disinterest in their marriage.

Spy x Family Chapter 119 recap

Hemlock comes back from his mission and meets the Shopkeeper. While talking about his crash out during the mission, the Shopkeeper also admits that he too, once struck her out of worry that her skills have dulled. But when he asks if the Thorn Princess is strong, Hemlock has to agree that she is, incredibly so. Gympie enters and gives Hemlock a package containing a special salve made for Yor. Since she’s extremely resistant to both poison and medicine, this is the only thing that will work on her wounds. She says that she knows one of the reasons Hemlock attacked Yor is because Gympie was getting worried about never finding a lover. Hemlock gets angry, but takes the salve from Gympie and walks away, saying the only reason he attacked her was to test the strength of his solitude.
We then see Yor wide awake on her bed, terrified about her date with Loid. In a flashback, we see that yesterday, she asked her (fake) husband on a date to a restaurant they visited once before. This is because she is in extreme pain after her fight with Hemlock and the poachers, and the cocktails there seemed to work well before. She tells Loid it’s to keep up their public appearances as a couple, and Loid agrees to the date because they have been quite lax about behaving like a married couple lately. At present, they leave for the date while Franky takes on baby and dog-sitting duty on Anya and Bond. Loid offers to visit someplace else first since it’s not lunchtime yet, but Yor is in so much pain that she doesn’t want to go anywhere else. Her facial expressions make Loid think that she’s in an awful mood and he needs to make it better fast.

They enter the restaurant and Yor orders the cocktail Loid thinks she had last time, but it doesn’t make her pain go away. She tells Loid that she remembers it tasting different, and he suggests another one. However, this one fails in making her feel better as well. But the drinking makes Yor a bit tipsy, and as the couple venture outside, she lands in an embarrassing situation. Yor goes to the washroom, and is suddenly confronted by Hemlock. As the two start talking, we see Yor’s City Hall coworkers looking at them through binoculars. They wonder who the man is with Yor. Hemlock leaves after giving Yor the salve and she immediately feels a lot better after applying it. Loid is glad to see her improved mood, but he soon discovers that Yor’s coworkers are following them. Loid holds her hand, which makes her extremely nervous. Before things can escalate further, the two make a run for it and lose the nosy women.
When they’re far enough, the couple catch a breather and Yor thinks to herself how much she enjoyed it. Then she remembers Hemlock’s devotion to solitude and thinks maybe he’s right. To get away from the bustle of the city, Loid suggests they go to the hilltop park. Once there, Yor realises that before, she used to come here often to look at the people and remind herself of what she was fighting for. But now, she doesn’t visit at all because what she wants to protect is right there at home. She suddenly asks Loid how long their marriage agreement is going to last, which sends him down an internal spiral about if she wants to quit now and what will happen to the mission if she does.

She then says that for him, maybe the perfect time to end this contract would be when Aya graduates, but for her, it’s different. Loid feels hopeful that Yor might want to continue their agreement longer and says they’ll do it for as long as she wants, even though the risk of getting arrested will always be there. He thinks that although he doesn’t know how Operation Strix will develop, he is sure that it would be beneficial to be a part of it for longer. He says that them staying together will make Anya happy, and Yor asks him about what it makes him feel. Loid smiles and says he will very much appreciate it. But Yor isn’t happy with the answer and remembers how Macmahon said that if his wife ever found out about his occupation, he hopes she’ll accept him anyway. Yor realises that she wishes the same, but it’s selfish of her.
Spy x Family Chapter 119 review

We are entering the angst era in Spy x Family and I’m not sure I’m ready for it. Although Yor is struggling with her feelings, she understands how important her fake family has become to her. On the other hand, Loid still only thinks about his mission and how he can use Yor and Anya in his grand scheme. Although it’s neither of their fault, I can’t help but feel bad for Yor, who’s stuck in an impossible crossroad. The emotions were running high in the chapter although it was funny to see Yor and Loid be followed around by the three women. It seems the time of confrontation is nigh, although I think Loid and Yor will still have time before they find out about each other’s professions, if ever.
